WEST CARCLAZE Solar Farm

West Carclaze Solar Farm, a 5MWp connected @ 33kV project, is located at St. Austell, Cornwall, UK. Built on the top of an old 10m deep China clay pit, it is the most challenging, technically speaking, of our projects. Extensive geotechnical surveys and complex statistical calculations were deployed in order to design a stuctural system that depends solely on the friction between the supporting piles of the structure and the clay. The fact that construction had to take place during the winter season, where the field was wet and the clay was soft, imposed the use of 500m of wooden bog mats, specifically made for that project, for plant machinery and personel to walk on. The plant was succesfully commisioned and energised under the ROCs Trading Scheme on the 29th of March 2017.
